/In next Sunday’s 1st Lesson (I Samuel 16:1-13), Samuel is cautioned about looking to the other appearance, when he thought Elias must be Israel’s next king. Yet, when young David is selected, the passage notes (vs. 12) that David was indeed handsome. Perhaps the point is that God looks inside, whatever one’s outer appearance is. We know from history that David had great triumphs and failures as a person and leader. Yet he was able to recognize his faults and ask for forgiveness. What qualities might God love as God looks into your heart?
